A single morning of generosity has brought a $130,000 boost to children and families in East Boston.

The East Boston YMCA raised the money at its annual Reach Out Breakfast on October 16, bringing together more than 440 supporters at the Hilton Boston Logan Airport.

The gathering included neighborhood residents, business leaders, elected officials, and volunteers, all supporting one goal: making YMCA programs accessible to more families, regardless of their ability to pay.

For an organization that provides everything from swimming lessons to after-school activities, the money will help open doors for children who might otherwise miss out.

A Community Comes Together

This year's breakfast carried the theme Built by Community, Powered by You, celebrating the people and partnerships behind the YMCA's work.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu delivered featured remarks, recognizing the importance of community organizations in supporting children and families.

State Representative Adrian Madaro served as master of ceremonies, while Boston City Councilor Gabriela Coletta-Zapata also addressed attendees. Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden joined other local leaders at the event.

The program featured a children's performance and a video highlighting the people who participate in YMCA programs.

A live fundraising appeal brought in approximately $10,000 toward the overall total.

According to the East Boston Times-Free Press, the breakfast ultimately raised $130,000.

East Boston YMCA Executive Director Joey Gaeta thanked the sponsors, volunteers, staff, and community members who helped make the event successful.

What Will the Money Support?

The funds will help expand access to programs that benefit children, teens, and families.

These include swimming lessons, youth sports, summer camps, teen activities, and financial assistance for eligible households.

For children, those opportunities can mean learning to swim, discovering a new interest, or building friendships through team sports.

For parents, access to affordable programs can make it easier to keep children engaged and active outside school hours.

The YMCA also provides early education, after-school care, and activities that help young people develop confidence and independence.

These services are available through the East Boston YMCA, which operates facilities at 215 Bremen Street and 54 Ashley Street.

The Bremen Street location includes a fitness center, swimming pool, early education center, and youth programs.

The Ashley Street facility offers additional activities, including a gymnasium, summer camp, after-school care, a teaching kitchen, and an urban garden.

Together, the two locations provide families with a range of ways to participate.

Making Programs More Affordable

One of the YMCA's ongoing priorities is ensuring that cost does not prevent people from taking part.

Through its ACCESS financial assistance program, the YMCA of Greater Boston offers reduced membership and program costs to qualifying individuals and families.

Assistance is based on financial need and available resources.

Families interested in applying can visit the membership page to learn about eligibility and the application process.

The money raised at the breakfast will help support the YMCA's ability to continue offering that assistance.

How to Get Involved

Massport served as the presenting sponsor of the event, joined by several businesses and community partners.

The YMCA's event announcement emphasized that money raised would remain in East Boston to support local programs.

Residents interested in programs, membership, or financial assistance can contact the East Boston YMCA at 617-569-9622.

Families from nearby communities, including Chelsea, can also ask about available programs and participation requirements.

The breakfast may have lasted only a few hours, but its impact is intended to reach well beyond one morning.

For East Boston children and families, the $130,000 represents more opportunities to learn, grow, and feel connected to their community.
