The Sports Bra Is Coming to Boston, Putting Women's Sports Front and Center |
A group of local friends is opening a downtown sports bar where women's games get the big screens, and fans get a place of their own. |

Imagine walking into a sports bar and knowing your favorite women's team will be on television without having to ask someone to change the channel.
That's the idea behind The Sports Bra, a new restaurant and bar preparing to open at 2 Broad Street in downtown Boston.
Unlike traditional sports bars, The Sports Bra will show women's sports exclusively, from professional leagues to college competitions and local teams.
The Boston location is being developed by eight local owners who want to create more than a place to watch games. They're building a gathering spot for fans, families, athletes, and coaches.
And the idea started with something simple: friends getting together to watch sports.
From a Group Chat to a Sports Bar
Several members of the ownership group grew up together in Malden.
In early 2024, the friends formed Watch With Us Boston, organizing watch parties and community events centered on women's athletics.
The gatherings attracted fans who wanted to watch their favorite teams with other supporters.
Eventually, the group decided to turn those temporary events into something permanent.
According to local reporting by Patch, the owners considered more than 25 locations before choosing the former Tiki Rock space on Broad Street.
The planned restaurant covers approximately 3,243 square feet and will offer seating for more than 100 guests.
It will include a main bar, dining areas, and a full-service kitchen.
The Boston restaurant is a franchise of The Sports Bra, whose first location opened in Portland, Oregon, in 2022.
A Home for Boston's Women's Teams
Boston has a growing lineup of women's professional sports teams, and the new bar intends to give them plenty of attention.
The company's official announcement identifies several teams it plans to feature, including Boston Legacy FC soccer, the Boston Fleet hockey team, and the Boston Hunters women's baseball team.
Other planned coverage includes lacrosse, roller derby, and college sports.
The restaurant also wants to celebrate New England's history of women athletes.
That includes marathon pioneers Kathrine Switzer and Bobbi Gibb, along with notable athletes from basketball, soccer, hockey, and other sports.
For younger fans, the idea is especially meaningful. Instead of searching for a screen showing women's competition, they'll have a place where those games are the main attraction.
More Than Games on Television
The Sports Bra Boston is also planning a family-friendly atmosphere.
The menu is expected to include vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free choices, although specific dishes and prices haven't been announced.
Another important part of the business plan is supporting women-owned and women-operated companies.
The owners intend to prioritize products from local suppliers, extending the restaurant's focus on women's sports to other businesses in the community.
They also plan to continue hosting watch parties and other events, building on the gatherings that helped bring the ownership group together.
That community connection is central to the concept.
The restaurant isn't simply being designed for dedicated sports followers. The owners want it to be welcoming to families, newcomers, and anyone interested in discovering women's athletics.
When Will It Open?
The Sports Bra Boston will be located at 2 Broad Street, Boston, MA 02110, near the Rose Kennedy Greenway and Faneuil Hall.
Renovations and remaining preparations were underway when the location was announced on October 13.
The owners are targeting a 2026 opening, but an exact date has not been confirmed.
For updates, readers can visit The Sports Bra Boston's official location page, which also provides links to the business's social media accounts.
For Greater Boston sports fans, the new venue promises something different: a place where women's teams don't have to compete for attention with the usual sports-bar lineup.
Soon, watching women's sports could become the main reason people head to Broad Street. |
