When Carlos and Jenny Camacho opened Café El Dorado on March 1, 2020, they weren't just launching a new business—they were continuing a family legacy that began in Chelsea more than four decades ago.

The Camacho family's baking roots in Chelsea stretch back to 1981, when they first established El Dorado Bakery. For years, the bakery served as a beloved gathering place where locals could find authentic Colombian breads and pastries made with recipes passed down through generations. That all changed on November 28, 2013, when a devastating fire destroyed the original location.

Rather than walk away, the Camachos persevered. After more than six years of determination, they rebuilt and reopened as Café El Dorado at 241 Broadway—just days before the COVID-19 pandemic would test their resolve once again.

Today, the bakery has become a cornerstone of Chelsea's culinary landscape. The menu features Colombian classics made fresh daily: golden pandebono, cheesy pandequeso, crispy empanadas, and hearty arepas con queso. Each item reflects the family's commitment to preserving authentic flavors while creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere for longtime residents and newcomers alike.

The bakery opens early—4 AM Monday through Saturday—to ensure everything is fresh for the morning rush. Whether customers order online for pickup, grab breakfast on their commute, or gather with friends over Colombian coffee, Café El Dorado offers more than food.
