Chelsea High's soccer teams are giving fans plenty to cheer about this fall. The boys have been nearly impossible to score on, and the girls keep bouncing back.

Boys: a wall on defense

Coach Mick Milutinovic's team went four straight games without allowing a goal, the Chelsea Record reported. The stretch included two wins and two ties:

3–0 win over Somerville

3–0 win over Brighton

0–0 tie with Peabody

0–0 tie with Northeast Metro Tech

After that run, the team was 4-3-4 and ranked 20th in the MIAA Division 2 power rankings, the Record reported.

The run kept going. Chelsea beat Medford 4–0 on Oct. 13 to improve to 7-3-5, according to a MaxPreps recap. The recap said Chelsea hadn't lost since Sept. 25. It also said the team had won four of its last five games and allowed just one goal in that span.

Girls: bouncing back

Coach Randy Grajal's team showed it could recover from a tough night.

After a 6–0 loss to Somerville, Grajal praised the effort. "Although we were unable to find the back of the net, the team continued to compete and work hard throughout the match," he said.

Two days later, Chelsea beat Lynn English 5–1, the Record reported. Kim Contreras and Yahira Jovel each scored twice. Edlyn Hernandez Enriquez added a goal on a penalty kick, and Wendy Zuniga had an assist.

"It was especially exciting to see Kim Contreras score her first goals of the season," Grajal said.

That win left the team 4-2-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the Greater Boston League.

On Oct. 14, the girls won 2–1 at Gloucester after the game was tied 1–1 at halftime, according to a separate MaxPreps recap. That put Chelsea at 6-4-3. The recap said the team had won three of its last four road games.

Cross country is rolling, too

The boys cross country team beat Everett 22–37 at Admiral's Hill for its third win, improving to 3-1. Everett had the top finisher, but Chelsea runners took second through fifth place:

Xavier Guzman, 18:49

Zakaria Moubtassim, 19:04

Carlos Perez, 19:09

Jefriso Mercado, 19:25

Coach Cesar Hernandez called it "our strongest meet of the season."

On the girls side, Hazel Hatleberg won the overall race for the third time this season, finishing in 23:46.

How to follow along

Game dates, times and locations for every Chelsea High team are on the Chelsea Public Schools athletics schedule. The district notes that its online calendar is the most current version.

What to watch

The two MaxPreps recaps were automatically generated from data entered on MaxPreps. They don't name who scored against Medford or Gloucester. The records above come from reports published at different points in the season, so they may have changed since.
