Chelsea Recreation Brings Sports, Art and Technology Classes to November Calendar |
Children and teens can explore sports and creative activities, while adults have opportunities to build computer and artificial intelligence skills. |
Chelsea residents looking for something new to try this fall can find several opportunities through the city's Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department.
The November schedule features introductory sports, children's art, teen jewelry making and technology classes offered in English and Spanish.
Some sessions began earlier in the month, but additional dates are scheduled through November and into December.
The programs offer options for several age groups, from toddlers learning basic sports skills to adults exploring artificial intelligence.
Saturday sports and creative workshops
Three programs at the Williams Building, 180 Walnut Street, run on Saturdays from November 7 through November 21.
Hi-5 Sports introduces children ages 2 to 5 to a variety of games and physical activities.
The program includes soccer, T-ball, touch football, frisbee and dodgeball, with an emphasis on basic skills and participation.
Sessions are scheduled from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The published fee is $25.
Little Picassos gives children ages 3 to 5 an opportunity to experiment with drawing, painting and sculpture.
An adult accompanies each child, making the workshop a shared creative activity.
Sessions run from 11 to 11:45 a.m. The listed cost is $15.
Older children have a different artistic option.
Teen Jewelry Making, for ages 13 to 17, introduces beads, color combinations and jewelry design.
Participants can create pieces to keep or give as gifts.
The workshop runs from 2:30 to 4 p.m., with a published fee of $15.
Instructor Kristen Leslie leads the two creative workshops, according to the recreation schedule.
Families interested in these Saturday sessions should confirm registration availability before attending.
Computer classes for adults
Chelsea has also scheduled technology courses at the Morris H. Seigal Clark Avenue School, 8 Clark Avenue.
The Computer Fundamentals class is taught in Spanish and covers introductory skills such as using email, browsing the internet and working with documents and spreadsheets.
The course runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays from November 3 through November 12.
Residents interested in the course should contact the department to ask whether participation is possible after the first session.
Artificial intelligence classes later this fall
A separate class focuses on artificial intelligence.
Designed for people who already have some computer experience, the course introduces AI concepts, practical applications and ethical questions related to tools such as ChatGPT.
The English-language sessions are scheduled for November 17 and 19.
Spanish-language sessions are scheduled for December 8 and 10.
Both technology courses are listed for 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Clark Avenue School, with a published fee of $25.
Instructor Jesus Maldonado is identified as the teacher.
The later AI dates may be of particular interest to adults who want an introduction to the technology without committing to an extended course.
