For more than a decade, Ciao! Pizza and Pasta has done a lot with very little. The wood-fired pizzeria that co-owners Edson Coimbra and Marvin Posada opened at 59 Williams Street in Chelsea in 2015 built a devoted following, and national recognition, out of a storefront so small that seating has always been an afterthought — a handful of tables squeezed around an open kitchen. Now the restaurant is taking its Neapolitan pies, hand-rolled pasta, and Chelsea Square following on the road, with a second location opening in Lynn.

According to Boston.com's September 10 roundup of Boston-area restaurant openings, the Lynn restaurant will occupy 41 Sutton Street and give Ciao! something the Chelsea original never could: 70 seats, a full bar, and a private dining room built for long family meals. Boston.com reports an opening timeframe of "September," though no specific date has been announced.

The Lynn menu will carry over Chelsea's signature dishes — the classic Margherita, the funghi pizza topped with wood-fire roasted mushrooms, and the campanelle pasta finished with a bolognese made from spicy chorizo, a nod to Coimbra's Brazilian heritage. Layered on top will be new additions built for the bigger space: confit duck leg with autumn squash, prosciutto with brûléed pear and burrata, and bar bites like warm olives and piquillo peppers with ricotta and focaccia.

There's a fitting bit of history built into the address. 41 Sutton Street has seen a string of Italian kitchens: it was home to D'Amici's bakery until that business closed in 2018, then reopened in 2021 as Ciao Cafe and Bistro, a Torretta family venture. That restaurant later operated as Ciao Restaurant and Bar before closing for good on February 21, 2026, with owners Sonia Torretta and Sean McDonough telling customers they were passing the business "into new hands," a closure also reported by Hoodline. Whether that transition led directly to Chelsea's Ciao! taking over the space isn't confirmed, but the timing and the identical address line up.

Boston Magazine reported in 2017 that Coimbra and Posada had already grown the brand once, adding Ciao! Market, a pasta-and-gelato shop, a block from the original pizzeria. Nearly a decade later, Lynn represents their biggest leap yet: out of Chelsea Square and into a full-service restaurant with a scale the original storefront was never built for.

A few details are still unsettled. Neither Boston.com nor Ciao!'s own website confirms an exact opening date, the restaurant's liquor-license status, or whether the new location will change staffing or hours at the Chelsea original.
