If you've ever wondered whether your voice has main-character energy, Massport wants to hear it. The Massachusetts Port Authority has launched a public contest called Voice of Logan, searching for a new official overhead announcement voice for Boston Logan International Airport — the voice more than 40 million travelers a year will hear greeting them at gates, baggage claim, and ground transportation.

Any Massachusetts resident 18 or older can enter. Submissions opened Monday, September 14, and stay open through Sunday, October 4, at voiceoflogan.com, where hopefuls read a provided script, record it, and write a brief statement on why they should be the Voice of Logan. Entries are judged on what Massport calls "the Boston vibe," clarity of delivery, and that written pitch — limit one entry per person, no purchase necessary.

Massport also planned a launch event at the airport on September 17, where contest "ambassadors" were set to coach hopefuls on-site and help them record submissions in person. The ambassador lineup includes Massport CEO Rich Davey, Lisa Donovan of KISS 108's "Billy & Lisa in the Morning," WHDH 7 News morning anchor Amaka Ubaka, and WBZ NewsRadio reporter and Boston content creator Matt Shearer.

"During this milestone year, it was especially important that we help everyone passing through Logan feel immediately at home," Davey said in a statement. "And there's no better way to do that than with one of the many diverse, distinct, and deeply proud voices that make up our Commonwealth."

Massport is framing the contest as part of a broader push to make Logan feel more like a snapshot of the region than a generic terminal — pointing to the more than 40 championship banners from Boston teams displayed in Terminal C, food stops like Legal Sea Foods and Santarpio's Pizza, and live music from Massachusetts-connected musicians along the Terminal B-C Connector.

Judges will narrow the field to five finalists, and then it's up to the public: voting on the finalists runs October 24 through 28, also at voiceoflogan.com. Massport will announce the winner on November 5, and that voice will start greeting travelers at Logan in mid-November — recording everything from arrival greetings to directions for concessions and ground transportation.

For a city that sits practically in Logan's shadow, across Chelsea Creek from the runways, it's hard not to wonder whether Chelsea has a shot at producing the winning voice. The contest is open to any Massachusetts resident, so nothing but the calendar is stopping a Chelsea entrant from giving it a try before the October 4 deadline.
