Boston's wine scene just got a major upgrade. Marzae Cellar + Provisions, Massachusetts' first and only natural winery, has opened its doors at the Boston Public Market, bringing a unique blend of locally-crafted wine, seasonal cuisine, and community-focused hospitality to the heart of downtown.

Founded in 2023 by husband-and-wife team Eliot Martin and Katie Luczai, Marzae has quickly made a name for itself in the natural wine world. Their bottles have already appeared at restaurants across the country and earned recommendations from Wine Enthusiast magazine. Now, they're bringing their passion for natural wine directly to Boston with their first permanent hospitality space.

What Makes Natural Wine Different

Natural wine isn't just a trend—it's a return to traditional winemaking. Marzae's wines are made from fruit sourced across the Northeast and fermented in Massachusetts, spontaneously fermented with minimal intervention, without filtering or fining and with only small amounts of sulfites used in most wines. The result is wine that truly reflects the regional terroir, with each bottle telling the story of New England soil and climate.

The winery's commitment to local sourcing runs deep. They've begun planting what they say is Massachusetts' first regeneratively farmed vineyard in Haverhill and are managing an abandoned vineyard in the Berkshires, with grapes expected for this year's production. They also produce ciders and coferments, expanding the boundaries of what local fermentation can achieve.

A Destination at Boston Public Market

Located in the Market's largest retail space at 100 Hanover Street, Marzae Cellar + Provisions offers approximately 95 seats across bar seating, lounge areas, and full-service dining. The space brings together Massachusetts-made natural wine with seasonal New England cuisine and a curated selection of locally made specialty foods.

The menu features seasonal small and large plates, plus customizable cheese and charcuterie boards. Many ingredients are sourced directly from fellow Boston Public Market vendors, including seafood from Red's Best, coffee from George Howell, and spices from Curio Spice Co. It's a true celebration of New England's food ecosystem under one roof.

What's Coming Next

The team isn't stopping with the opening. Later this summer, Marzae plans to launch a draft wine program with a refillable growler system—perfect for regulars who want to take the experience home. They're also developing Off Piste Ferments, a line of kombucha-based nonalcoholic beverages inspired by wine, beer, and cocktails.

Beyond the bar, Marzae has been building community through MASSeration, a natural wine fair celebrating regional wines and craft beverages. It's clear this isn't just a business—it's a movement to put Massachusetts on the natural wine map.

The soft opening runs through August 16, with full operations expected by mid-August. Whether you're a natural wine enthusiast or just curious about what locally-made wine tastes like, Marzae offers something genuinely new for Boston's food and drink scene.
