When Gregory Evangelis immigrated to the United States from Greece in 1971, he found work as a mechanic at a small gas station and auto repair shop at 51 Park Street in Chelsea. Four years later, Greg and his wife Patricia—an elementary school teacher—purchased the business. What started with just two bays and one lift has now become Greg's Service Center, a Chelsea institution celebrating 50 years of service.

Today, the business operates Monday through Saturday from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, reachable at (617) 889-4799. While Greg's son Michael manages the repair shop and gas station, Greg—now 80 years old—still shows up every day to help in any way possible. Longtime employees Bobby Baggs and Italo Bove have been part of the team for years, providing service that has kept generations of Chelsea families coming back.

The City of Chelsea officially recognized this milestone in February 2026, with councilors praising the family's commitment to quality and community. District 5 Councilor Lisa Santagate noted her family's long history of getting cars serviced there. Councilor-at-Large Kelly Garcia personally thanked them for helping with a flat tire. District 6 Councilor Giovanni Recupero highlighted the Evangelis family story as an example of immigrants contributing to the community, while District 8 Councilor Calvin T.
