Suffolk County Sheriff Steven Tompkins is on trial in federal court for alleged extortion involving a Boston cannabis company.

Prosecutors claim he used his office to pressure an executive into selling him stock that later grew to $138,403, then allegedly forced a refund when prices dropped. The trial began August 24, 2026, at Boston's federal courthouse and is scheduled through September 4.
