Stop & Compare’s Chelsea story traces a multigenerational family supermarket back to Cuban immigrant founders Al and Betty Calvo, who moved from ethnic-food wholesale into retail in 1996.

Today, the Calvo and Iannotti families continue serving Chelsea shoppers with fresh foods, culturally familiar ingredients, and a mission rooted in food, memory, and community.

Developer Copper Mill has abandoned its plan for a 502-unit, 26-story tower at Elm and Grove streets in Somerville's Davis Square, ending a controversial years-long proposal. East Boston High valedictorian Arielle Tritto has won a full-tuition scholarship to Boston University as one of 30 students named a 2026 Thomas M. Menino Scholar. Tritto, who graduated with a 4.66 GPA, is entering BU as a political science major with hopes of becoming a lawyer.
